![]() I would have liked population in Stellaris to be all about factions, culture, politics and science. Large populations might not even be wanted in some societies at all as long as you have the intellectual capital to continue advancing society enough. some societies probably have little to no growth at all and most growth will be immigrations. Growths should be a factor of local conditions as you say. In terms of growth there does not need to be huge growth of populations as that is not what the game really needs if it was done properly. The amount of population you need to produce something is so extremely small given the technologies we talk about in Stellaris that you probably could decouple industry completely from raw population numbers entirely. Population should mainly be a cultural and intellectual pool which depending on government and overarching philosophical understandings be both positive and negative at the same time. ![]() Population are useful for civilian economy in terms of consumption, but consumption is from a state perspective a waste of resources but for the individual it is quality of life. ![]() The whole idea that population equal production is pretty dumb to begin with.
